Good afternoon. My parents have been AW owners since the mid 1970’s. Our own dogs have never visited Atlantic Watergate or Tower Shores. I am a former resident manager, and I periodically experienced the anger dispensed by folks who could not understand why their small breed was a violation of the no dogs rule. The vast majority of visitors and owners alike took their four-legged friends to the state park and enjoyed their stay at the beach. On my daily beach clean ups, I regularly picked up droppings on the sand and throughout the community. The TSBA sands have survived dog free for decades, and for the health and safety of all visitors the summer dog restriction should remain in place. Anecdotally, I have been to my parents’ unit twice this summer. In June I arrived in the dark, exited my vehicle, and stepped in a pile of dog droppings in our driveway. Clearly someone had not followed the “scoop the poop” rule. On my second visit in July, I had a barefoot encounter with dog droppings on the beach (the pile had been lightly buried by someone). Responsible dog owners don’t create these situations, but not all owners are responsible. Sadly, we all must plan for the inability of some dog owners to follow the rules. Just my two cents. Be well. Wear a mask. Enjoy summer.
