Being an owner in Atlantic Watergate for 25 years and a dog owner, I agree with Deleware state law. Dogs are not permitted on any beach where there is swimming and sunbathing – for health reasons. Only the state park allows dogs and we are right next to the park. People can take the dogs over there.
Every summer, I usually spend 4-6 weeks at the beach. I am fed up with people not picking up after their dogs, around our tennis court and play area. Way to many times, while walking my dog, bag in hand, I see a dog owner walking their dog and not cleaning up. If you remind them, you get a dirty look and they storm off.
I arrived saturday night for one day at the beach. Arriving at night, unloading the van in the dark, walking inside and having dog feces on my shoe is enough! I did not bring my dog with me.
We need larger, eye level signs at every beach walkout reminding everyone that dogs are no allowed on the beach. If we cannot get people to cleanup around our living and play areas, I do not want them using our beach as a dog toilet. The state park allows dogs. People can take the dogs nextdoor to run around. There is absolutely no reason to have them on our beach. The worse was my grand daughter putting her beach towel down on the sand, sitting down and the smell. Yes, someone had their dog on the beach and covered the feces up with sand. It was all over her towel.
We need protect our beach where our kids play. We need to keep our beach clean.
