Dear Tower Shores Homeowners,
Over the winter the communications committee opened discussions with Comcast to bring their cable service to the community. Comcast has recently expanded their service in South Bethany. We approached them with very low expectations, knowing that this was a long shot at best.
To our surprise the initial conversations were positive, but still the odds were tough. Comcast agreed to explore the idea so they kicked it up to their engineering department. After providing them with details about our community the engineers did a site survey and logistics study and determined the costs were extremely high to create the infrastructure that would be needed.
We had anticipated that, and we suggested to Comcast that they explore the numerous communities up and down the beach to make the cost worthwhile. We don’t know if they ever did, but for now Comcast has made the business decision not to expand to Tower Shores.
But, all it not lost, 5G technology is coming soon, then the whole world of WiFi and Cable will be turned upside down.

Thank you for your efforts on the cable and WiFi service issue. The cost is ridiculous for a seasonal situation and the option for yearlong service even more financially outlandish. The annual setup is difficult but they have worked well with us on the annual cutoff and return of equipment. Please continue to look for options, as owners and guests appreciate these services.

Unfortunately there are not very many options. Mediacom is the only current cable company operating in Tower Shores. We attempted to reach out to Verizon but they have no interest (I get the impression they are focussed on 5G technology).
Many homeowners have a satellite dish but that still leaves the issue of finding an internet connection which brings you back to Mediacom or Verizon DSL (already in Tower Shores) which is very slow and dated technology. The only other source is Comcast. 5G will be the next option, but in the world of priority for a company to build out the infrastructure you have to wonder where Tower Shores is on that list. It could be a while.
Meantime, many people may not know that Mediacom has a seasonal plan for their service depending on how your contract reads. A phone call to them might reveal ways to save money in the off season, or find promotional rates as an incentive to keep your business.

Thanks for checking with Comcast.
Most of the Bethany community seems to be dissatisfied with Mediacom on the Bethany blogs I subscribe to. A lot of outages and slow connections all year long.
And yes, Mediacom does have a seasonal/vacation plan that cuts the cost in half for the 6 winter months (Nov-Mar). You do have to ask for it each year, but you do get ser vice all year and do not have to return any equipment.

Yup, the dissatisfaction was the primary reason for exploring other options. It’s a shame we can’t get a bit of competition going. But I am holding out hope for 5G in the near future.
